Baazigar
The long legged starlet Shilpa Shetty with her debut performance in Baazigar took the glamour world by storm. Although a small role as Kajol's elder sister, it was a significant one. The Bollywood calling was irresistible and she left college to join the world of glamour, glitz and fame. Beginning her film career at the tender age of 16 she bagged the 'Filmfare debut award' for her role in Baazigar. She actively participated in sports in her school and college and helped her father Surendra Shetty in his chemical business. With no prior experience in acting, she accepted the role in Baazigar as a challenge. Coming from a non-filmy background Shilpa witnessed a lot of struggle in her early years. Her second film was with Govinda, Aag that did not impress the box office much but was enough to impress the actor who recommended her for movies like Hathkadi, Chote Sarkar, Gambler and Pardesi Babu. She was awarded the Zee Gold Award for Best Supporting Actress 1998 (Pardesi Babu). Main Khiladi Tu Anari opposite Akshay Kumar gave the professional kick to her acting career. The song 'Churake Dil mera goria Chali' was the biggest hit in 1994. Her next significant performance was in Dhakan where she was nominated for the best actress. After getting a nose job done and few item numbers like in Shool and Tarkeib Shilpa has become the new hot property of Bollywood. She won accolades for her performance in Rishtey and Phir Milenge in which she plays a HIV Positive patient. 40 movies in her kitty now there are more to come from this dusky female.
